To Sleep, Perchance not to Post

Thanks for all of your supportive comments about the picture and my bod in general. There's a LOOOOOONG post rattling around in my head about feminism and body image and our culture and pregnancy, but I'm having a hard time getting it out. I'm still battling pretty significant fatigue (hello! 17 weeks! I thought I was supposed to be all glowy and shit now!) and there's a long list of things I should be doing (ahem, bills!) before I even think about a long, thoughtful, introspective yet political post.

But if you care to try and read my mind until it appears, go right ahead.

  • Not to discourage you, but my fatigue didn't lift until 25 weeks or so. But, knock on wood, it's still gone. It's amazing how much better I feel now that I'm not so fucking tired all the time.

  • Yeah, like I said, that kind of scared and depressed me when I read the other week that you were finally feeling more energy. Wah.

  • Jen-
I hope you feel better. It's no fun to feel so very tired all the time. Take care of yourself. Even though I look forward to your body image post, I am more glad that you are sleeping instead of posting!

  • Oh wow.....17 weeks already.....I'm swooning! How can it be going so fast??

  • Well, I for one, can wait to read your long post, you've got more important things to do. However, I DO want to read it eventually, cause what I'm getting through my mind reading so far is BRILLIANT!

  • The fatigue is supposed to lift? What the hell? Nobody told me that!

You're doing great, Jen. Really and truly. Looking forward to catching up on you as things begin to settle around here.

  • I'm sorry that the Great Hammer of Fatigue has found you and bonked you repeatedly. It is no fun at all.

  • Ye gods and goddesses, HAS it been seventeen weeks already? It'll get better. When the kid starts sleeping through the night.

  • Reading your mind:

Women are supposed to look a certain way and be a size 4, even at 17 weeks of pregnancy, and anything less than that is just not acceptable.

And oh, don't even GET me started on the "I walked out of the hospital in the same jeans I wore in, after having the baby." This said to someone who just complained about feeling overweight while pregnant.

Ditto on the 25 weeks thing.

Are you guys going to find out the gender? (BEFORE birth I mean... :))

  • I think the one thing I have learned being pregnant is that no 2 pregnancies are alike.

I had it incredibly lucky for about the first 20 or 22 weeks. Since then, my body is in 'payback time' -- maybe your experience will be exactly the opposite.

  • It's funny, but I find myself wishing I were larger than I am at 26 weeks. People look at me and say things like "are you sure you're eating enough" and "maybe they got the due date wrong cause you don't seem 6 months to me." I feel like a bad mother or something, even though I feel like I'm eating all the time. So it works both ways, you're either feeling as large as a house or not feeling large enough to have a healthy baby...

  • I just tried to read your mind but all I got was, "zzzzzzzzzzzzz"

But I'm sure your future post will be brilliant.

  • Calliope, you have a GREAT future in mind reading and other visionary arts.... :)

  • I'm hoping you're feeling a little more rested by now.

  • The day before I delivered 3 people were shocked that I was 37 weeks pregnant. They said I looked about 4 months along. And I'm not fat; I just carried weird. So there you go...
