Miraculous Monday
We went to the orientation session at BirthCare last night and really liked it (except for the bratty toddler running around with insufficient supervision from his parents). It helped us re-connect with everything that draws us to midwifery care and assuaged some of our lingering concerns about out-of-hospital births. It was a bit unsettling that the woman who ran the session was the last midwife we'd seen at the Maryland birth center -- the one who could not find a heartbeat when we lost Coqui last year -- but she remembered us and was very kind. She even let us hear Harpo's heartbeat with a Doppler after everyone else was gone!
It more than made up for all the crap of the past few days.
(Oh, and Cait's arm is doing fine. Still itching but we haven't had to cut it off.)

Yeah Harpo's heartbeat!
Woot!
Now for more belly shots, please!

Great! Glad that you were comfortable there! And good news on more heartbeats!
And I am very glad you have not had to amputate Cait's arm. I imagine that would get messy.

I'm so happy you found a place that feels right! That's huge. And I'm glad Cait's arm is getting better too. Sounds like a great start to the week!

hey, you don't know me but i followed a link from our mutual friend liza's blog.
i just wanted to say that if you are still interested in the possibility of a hospital birth, i'm almost positive my ob/gyn's practice has nurse practitioner/midwives as part of the practice and delivers babies in the hospital (in maryland, surburban hospital i think) if you want to. i am in love with my ob/gyn, he is the most open-minded and compassionate and wise ob/gyn i've ever met, so i would highly recommend the practice if you were interested in that route.
email me through my profile if you want more info on my doc.

PS it's me again. if you decide to have doctors do the delivery, i likewise recommend my ob/gyn, if you are concerned about doctors being conservative, let me tell you some stories about this one that will wow you, including the reason i ended up with him in the first place. but anyway, if you do go with a doctor, any doctor, you might want to consider a doula, who will help make sure the hospital and the doctor keep their word... see http://www.dona.org/

Yay for cool midwives!! And so glad Harpo didn't pull a "hide behind some major internal organ" trick and freak you all out.
Also v. glad you didn't amputate Cait's arm. Messy. Very messy. But, you might be able to get some cute CSIs to come check out the inevitably bloody "crime scene." Not that I've contemplated that or anything :P

No, not only didn't he hide but literally the second she touched my stomach we could hear the wooo-wooo-wooosh. Instantaneously. It was awesome!
