Sir Harpo the Half-Baked

Harpo is officially halfway cooked today. In celebration, we took him/her for a level 2 ultrasound. (OK, so we were gonna do it anyway, but don't tell him/her, alright?). Other than the tech asking if I was Jen's daughter, everything went fine. The tech clicked away, and we got to see all of Harpo's parts (except THOSE parts--though we were so nervous we forgot to tell her that we didn't want to see them. Luckily she asked). She commented here and there on what she was measuring, but it was pretty much just business for her.

When the doctor came in, however, he pronounced Harpo "great," and looked a little more. He held the wand still, and we got to watch the kid wiggling and arching and kicking all over the place. Apparently Harpo has a future as a swimmer of butterfly. Luckily, that's something this mama can help with.

Phew. One more milestone. One more inch of trust.

Here's Harpo at 20 weeks, weighing in at approximately 13 ounces:

Halfway there!

  • Argh!

Once, in an airport, I was asked by an airline employee how old my "sonS" were - she thought that both Gargantuan Man Boy AND Wes were mine... This was many years before the transition, too, so I got to say, REALLY mad-like, "This is my STEPSON and this is his MOTHER." It was gratifying. I can't explain how mad I was. My apologies that you had to put up with such a thing.

I am SOOOO happy that Harpo is doing well.

  • WOW, Bri, you win! (another dopplegangy thing, though)

It does happen to us often enough that I sometimes don't become livid anymore. I just roll my eyes and take great delight in saying, "She's my WIFE."

  • Hi there,

I actually have NO CLUE how I stumbled into your blog, but I am fascinated by your story!

My partner and I live in Northern VA and we recently adopted a little girl, through international adoption. I have been down the ugly road to infertility, though, so I know your heartaches and now I can see happily that your triumph is feeling very sweet!!

If you feel the need to connect to some like minds, please email me at patriots6789@fastmail.fm (believe me, this parent thing is all they said it would be and more...more fun, more exhausting, more joyful!) So we are on the other side of it, and would love to share our path as well.

Good luck, oh and what a coool picture of your baby-kins!!!

  • Amazing baby. To bad about the obnoxious comment.

  • Yeah, Conch, you're not kidding. At 20 weeks the baby is supposed to be 10.5 oz. So we are, y'know, 23% ahead of the curve!!! Yikes.

  • I LOVE these pictures!

(We get the "mom" thing all the time. Vanda hates it.)

  • Yay Harpo!!
At 22 weeks Chuzzle was I think 20 ounces or so. He was almost six pounds at his 31 week ultrasound. but, um, we know how big HE was at birth. May Harpo be half his size. Okay maybe a tad more.
Harpo looks great! Isn't the halfway point wonderful? From here on out, there is more behind you than ahead of you. If you don't count the 21 years you have to support him/her/them/it afterwards.
    Grow Harpo Grow!
